Hello, Tennis Family,
The 2021 Venture Out Welcome Back Tournament is over and here are the results of our final matches. We had five teams representing Mesa Regal/Val Vista.
TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS
Bob Berry/Harold Patterson
Bob and Harold went undefeated for the week of play-offs and entered the Saturday match in the top Division A finals for the 4.0 Men. They battled against a talented team from SSV. They pulled out a win in a close match tiebreaker and earned a gold medal. Congratulations, Gentlemen! You had a lot of great matches this week and now will enter the league season “tournament tough”. When Bob’s original partner was unable to return to the valley in time for the tournament, Harold came on board willingly and together they made a fantastic team!
Rick Ford/R Huebach
Rick and R, also, went undefeated for the week of play-offs and entered the Saturday match in the top Division A finals for the 3.5 Men. Their opponents were from LW. They won and earned a gold medal. Congratulations to both gentlemen from our sister park at Val Vista. We look forward to getting better acquainted and watching more of your matches as you team up with MR 3.5 men in regular league play.
TOURNAMENT FINALISTS
Peggy Hoolsema/Diane Platford
Peggy and Diane both flew in from Canada in time to team up for a week full of great competition. They entered the Saturday match in the Division B finals for the 3.5 Women. They came up against a good team from SVE. One of their opponents was former MR player, Mary Clawson!!! They lost and earned a silver medal. Congratulations, Ladies! You had some crazy scheduling to work around, early and late matches thrown in, but weathered the challenge.
Judy Farlow-Chislett/Cyndi Griffiths
Judy and Cyndi had some early bumps in the road but persevered throughout the week, also, dealing with early and late matches and even a scheduling change. They competed Saturday in the Division C finals for the 2.0 Women. Their opponents were from VP. They lost and earned a silver medal. Congratulations, Ladies! The evening practices paid off and now you are ready to tackle the league session.
Bruce Samuelson/Clive Sands
Bruce and Clive went undefeated for the week of play-offs and entered the Saturday match in the top Division A finals for the 2.0 Men. Their opponents were from SSV. They lost and earned a silver medal. Great effort to the gentlemen from our sister park Val Vista. We look forward to getting better acquainted with you, as well, as you join our men in 2.0 regular league play.
Congratulations to all the MR/VV teams that competed this week. The Welcome Back Tournament has always been a favorite event for our club and it was great to be able to compete again after missing the tournament last year. We are proud of you all for working hard, playing your best, and being good sportsman/women in representing our tennis clubs.
The 2021-2022 EVSTL season begins Monday, Nov. 1 with recreational play. Matches are held every weekday morning and the skybox makes a great observation deck!!! Come on down and watch the action, have a cup of coffee, and socialize with others while cheering for our players on the courts. Some of our courts remain under repair so be patient with scheduling and co-ordination of matches for the next two weeks.
Respectfully submitted,
Margie Crofoot, court reporter signing off…
